Sara la noire
Every year in May thousands of gypsies gather together from all over the world at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in the Camargue, to worship Sara la Noire, the patron saint of gypsies.
Jeanne Taris personally experienced the pilgrimage, setting up camp among the caravans.
By chance, she had settled next to the family of the bearers of Saint Sara. They welcomed her and she spent whole nights and days living with them and sharing their daily routines.
During the past three years, she has met them again in their various different surroundings beyond the pilgrimage gathering - in their homes, on their land, or on the road.
